The Executive Secretary, Engr. Simbi Wabote FNSE, was at the kickoff ceremony of Human Capacity Development training for one hundred (100) persons from Niger Delta Communities as Boat Operators (PDSC), Batches 1 and 2, at the Joemarine Institute of Nautical Studies and Research, Effurun, Delta state.

Kenneth Epidei, CEO, Joemarine Institute of Nautical Studies and Research, in his welcome address thanked the Board for the training opportunity and urged the trainees to take the training serious. “No knowledge is lost” he added as he wished them all the best.

Engr. Simbi Wabote, FNSE, represented by Dr Ama B. Ikuru, GM, Capacity Building Division, NCDMB, in his Keynote Address emphasized that “NCDMB is an agency of government saddled with the responsibility of developing Nigerian content in the oil and gas industry. Our mandate amongst others, requires the development of local talents, facilities, and assets to support the Nigerian oil and gas operations and its linkage sectors.”

He highlighted that in pursuance of the enhancement of indigenous maritime manpower, knowledge and skills to support the Nigerian Oil and Gas operations and consistent with the requirements of our 10-year strategic road map, this training seeks to develop guality manpower to maximize the

performance and safety in the delivery of services by power driven small boats which are in regular use in swamp operations in the oil and gas industry.

He urged trainees to think safery first and act safely and be the vanguard of their safety and the safety of all travelers in small crafts and canoes within our water ways as well.

He also advised trainees not to overload their boats, do not over speed, do not operate your boats at night and do not drink and drive.

Know the right of way rules and how to operate safely within the water ways.

The Executive Secretary, Engr Simbi Wabote, FNSE ably represented by Dr Ama B. Ikuru, (GM, Capacity Building Division) was accompanied by Mofe Megbele, (Supervisor, Capacity Building Division), John Ifidi, Basil Aleibiri, Desmond Okiumute, and other staff of the Board.
