NEMA, Oseke distribute relief materials to 2021 flood victims in Southern Ijaw Communities

Succor came in the way of food and household items worth millions of Naira for the victims of last year flooding in Bayelsa communities of Southern Ijaw federal constituency as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Hon. Preye Oseke, the member representing the constituency came to their rescue.

The food items including bags of rice, garri, beans, tin tomatoes, seasonings, groundnut oil and household items like blankets, matrasses, mosquito nets and beddings were shared among community leaders who will in turn distribute to the most affected households.

The items were presented to the community leaders by representatives of NEMA, Dahiru Yusuf and the wife of the member representing Southern Ijaw constituency at the federal house, Mrs Bridget Oseke.

Mrs. Oseke, who represented her husband at the event, said the gesture represents her husband’s promise to ameliorate the sufferings of the community who were affected by the flooding.

She thank the Federal Government and the emergency agency for the the donation, just as he promised that the items will be distributed evenly among those who were affected.

Oseke, who said the items will be distributed to all members of the community devoid of any party affiliations, class or creed, promised to facilitate the transportation of the items to all the communities at any cost.

Mr Dahiru Yusuf, NEMA’s Head of Operation in Edo, said in Yenagoa, that the distribution was carried out based on the agency’s assessement of the affected communities in Southern Ijaw, LGA.

According to him: “It’s an assistance from the Federal Government, to flood victims of 2021, from Southern Ijaw communities.

“There are communities in that area that was seriously affected, we heard of it and we went for an assessment, most of them loss their food items.

“So, this is an assistance from the federal government, to cusson what they have loss during the flooding period,” he said.

He stated that the Lawmaker sent sent letter as regards to flooding affected, which they went to verify.

The coordinator, urged the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously and to ensure that they use it well cusion the effect of the flooding.

“The community leaders were part of the distributions and it was hitch free; I am very sure those items will get to the people.

“I want the people to know that the federal government cares about them and their well-being, he explained.

Many of the beneficiaries who spoke at the event thank the federal government through interventionist agency and the member representing Ijaw South, Preye Oseke, for doing to their aid.

Mrs Alaire Owei, one of the beneficiaries, also commended the federal government and the Lawmaker for assisting the victims.

She said that it will go a long way for them and their families to feed very well and also utilize other items too.

“We are very delighted about this gesture from the federal government, led by President Buhari, who has assisted the poor masses,” she said
