On Saturday, March 1st, 2025, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), was honored with the Award of Public Service at the 2024 Sun Awards, held at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
Born on August 19, 1975, in Ayakoro, Bayelsa State, Dr. Ogbuku’s journey from a passionate youth to a seasoned political scientist and administrator is inspiring. His educational path led him to the University of Port Harcourt, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political and Administrative Studies, followed by advanced degrees culminating in a Ph.D. in Development Studies.
Dr. Ogbuku’s career is a testament to his dedication to public service and development. He has served in various capacities, including Personal Assistant to the Special Assistant to the Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief of Staff in the Bayelsa State Government House, and Managing Director/CEO of Fulfilled Farms Nigeria Limited. His tenure as Managing Director/CEO of the NDDC has been marked by significant infrastructural developments, including the construction and rehabilitation of over 5,141.3 kilometers of roads, 42 bridges, and 87 jetties across the Niger Delta region.
In healthcare, Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership has led to the construction of 142 health centers equipped with modern facilities and the resumption of a free healthcare program that has benefited thousands. His commitment to education is evident through the NDDC’s Foreign Post-Graduate Scholarship Programme, which has benefited 2,323 students, and the rehabilitation of numerous schools to foster learning.
Dr. Ogbuku’s robust approach to conflict resolution and community engagement has fostered peaceful relations, ensuring that development projects proceed smoothly. His visionary leadership at the NDDC has brought tangible improvements to the lives of Niger Deltans, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda.’
