Niger Delta group hails former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva on human empowerment , capacity development
The National Leadership of a South South based Non Governmental Organization “Niger Delta Media Activists Group and Excellent Leadership Foundation” has expressed satisfaction on former Bayelsa Governor Chief Timipre Sylva positive influence on citizens empowerment, human capacity development and building of institutions.
In a statement released by the organization National Coordinator, Chief Izzi Yakiah to commemorate Dr. Timipre Sylva and his supporters on the sidelines of this year’s Valentine day, Izzi Yakiah recalled that Chief Sylva’s initiative and hard work towards the Federal Government approval of the Presidential Amnesty Programme in 2009 for the Niger Delta Youth is an intent of the former Governor vision to ensure the oil rich region attain stability, redirect the focus of young people to acquire professional skills and grow to be an asset to the Nigeria State.
The NGO released affirmed that what relatively appears as Chief Timipre Sylva sole initiative and his further broad engagement with relevant stakeholders in 2009 has today produced over eleven thousands graduates from the scholarship scheme of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) while over five hundred programme beneficiaries had also gone into the entrepreneurial world to be drivers of the local economy through various chains of businesses.
Expressing appreciation to the Leader of Bayelsa APC for his genuine love for the Niger Delta region and passion to build institutions, Izzi Yakiah acknowleged Chief Sylva partnership with former Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari that led to the engagement of “Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited” a foremost surveillance security company that is presently working in synergy with conventional security institution to protect critical national oil and gas facilities in the creeks of the Niger Delta.
Describing Chief Sylva as a vision bearer, the organization National Coordinator observed that what the former Minister of State Petroleum Resources pioneered in 2022 when Nigeria daily oil production was at 600 barrels per day has now turned out to be the game changer that has engendered rise of daily oil production in Nigeria.
He mentioned that beyond the improvement of daily crude oil production, the surveillance company fully backed by Timipre Sylva has engaged about ten thousands young people as staff, a feat that is inline with Chief Sylva long agitation and dream for meaningful engagement of youths.
Lamenting on the deteriorating State of Bayelsa local economy and failure of successive government to industrialize the State, Izzi Yakiah wondered why the Bayelsa Plastic Industry set up by the administration of Chief Sylva has gone moribund in the last thirteen years.
Chief Izzi argued that Chief Timipre Sylva’s vision of a strong local economy in Bayelsa and plans for youth development was not sustained since he left office in 2012.
Thanking Chief Timipre Sylva for his compassionate spirit and maturity in his service to humanity, Izzi Yakiah prayed to God to bless the former Governor with sound health and and long life.
