Tife Owolabi the new chairman of Federated Correspondents’ Chapel, of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State, has thanked his members for the confidence reposed on them.
This was as he pledged to run an all inclusive administration, build capacity, complete outstanding projects and improve on welfare of members.
Speaking on Monday in Yenagoa during the election of his chapel, the new Chairman who just finished his first tenure said that his election was a testament to the unity and maturity of the chapel pledging to run an all-inclusive regime that will carry everyone along.
He said:I “I’m deeply humbled and honored to stand before you today as the newly elected chairman. I want to express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your trust and support.
“Our election was a testament to the unity and maturity of our chapel, and I pledge to run an all-inclusive regime that carries everyone along. As we move forward, I recognize the importance of teamwork and collaboration. I will work closely with our secretary, Emem Idio , Assistant Secretary, and Elizabeth Joseph.
He read out his priorities to include the promoting of Unity, Fostering of a sense of belonging among members and encouraging collective participation in decision-making.
He also promised to engage in capacity building, providing training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of our members.
” Ensuring the well-being and safety of journalists in Bayelsa state. Also accountability, holding government and institutions accountable through effective reporting and journalism.
He pledged to commit to uphold the principles of the union while working tirelessly to make the chapel proud.
Chairman of the State Council of the NUJ, Tonye Yemoleigha congratulated members for their maturity and peaceful conduct, describing the Federated Correspondents Chapel as the elite group within the Union.
In a goodwill message, Chairman of the Civil Liberty Organization in Bayelsa, Bekinwariye David-West commended the chapel for conducting the election in a crisis-free atmosphere, urging journalists to live to their responsibility as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.
The new leadership of Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Council will pilot its affairs for the next three years.
During the exercise, 17 out of the 18 accredited members unanimously returned Tife Owolabi of the Reuters News Agency for a second term, while Emem Idio of the Vanguard Newspaper emerged the new Secretary of the Chapel as Elizabeth Ayaka-Joseph emerged as the new Assistant Secretary.
The election was conducted by a three member Electoral Committee led by Femi Folaranmi of the Sun as Chairman, Willie Bassey of the Daily Trust as Secretary and Alambo Datonye of Radio Nigeria as member.
The election supervised by the leadership of the State Council of the NUJ, led by the Chairman, Tonye Yemoleigha, and the Secretary, Stanley Imgbi and the witnessed by the Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organisation, Bayelsa State, Bekinwariye David West.
Highlights of the event was swearing in and the administering of oath of office to the newly elected leadership of the Federated Correspondents of the Bayelsa State Council of the NUJ.
