The people of Ogbia Kingdom in the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the reappointment of Dr. Samuel Ogboku as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The people made their position known in a press conference in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital through the King of the Kingdom, His Royal Majesty King Dumaro Charles Waba. According to the people, Ogbia is where oil was “first struck” in commercial quantity and contributing to the economic development of the country, yet it lacks basic infrastructural development compared to what have been taken from the area. The people lamented moves by some mischievous persons to organize protests against the MD/CEO of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogboku, warning that such a move would be counter productive. The Ogbia people who are former President Goodluck Jonathan’s kinsmen, noted that they are peace loving and want people of the Niger Delta region to emulate their peaceful disposition, while equally extending their thanks for their cooperation and support for the NDDC helmsman. “We want to thank former President Muhamadu Buhari on the appointment of our son, Dr. Samuel Ogboku and also we express our sincere gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the reappointment of Dr. Samuel Ogboku.” The people further expressed satisfaction for the developmental strides of the NDDC under Ogboku’s leadership, adding that since his assumption of office tremendous progress unparalleled have been achieved with various projects littered across the Niger Delta region. Going down memory lane, they noted the contributions of the first civilian governor of old Rivers State and Senator Chief Melford Okilo for his educational, canalization and development of new towns during his tenure as Governor and Senator. Earlier, the Acting Chairman, Dr. Azibalaguo Seibofa of the Ogbia Brotherhood1 had reiterated the stances of the Ogbia people for their support for the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and warn detractors of the NDDC MD/CEO to mend their ways so that development and peace would reign in the Niger Delta. Clan heads, prominent Chiefs, traditional rulers, youths and women groups attended the conference.
