Stakeholders at a one day conference in Bayelsa State have canvassed a full integration of the Multi Door Court House system as an alternative mechanism for dispute resolution in the judiciary.

Resource persons and guests at the forum emphasized the need for an overhaul of the operations of the judiciary to integrate the Multi Door Court House in the nation’s jurisprudence.

The theme for the conference was ‘Multi Door Court House: Engine for Peace, Economic Growth and Development’.

Declaring the Conference open, Governor Douye Diri who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei described the Multi Door Court as an important system in the dispensation of justice which provides alternative to litigation, expressing willingness to support the judiciary.

The Chief Judge of Bayelsa State and Chairman of the Governing Council, Justice Matilda Ayemieye said the multi door court house is beneficial to citizens and the legal system because of its affordability and reduction in the number of cases in regular courts, expressing gratitude to the executive and legislature for enacting the law establishing the system while appealing to the Governor for proper funding.

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Biriyai Dambo stated that the multi door court system provides litigants alternative path to justice with a focus on peaceful resolution and conciliation.

Chairman of the Conference planning Committee, King Collins Daniel in an address of welcome said the purpose of the Conference was aimed at sensitizing stakeholders on the benefits of the multi door court house.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Kehinde Aina who delivered the keynote address, advocated the need to build a culture of multi door court house, calling for its full integration into the judicial and governance system, canvassing for the reform of the registry department which he described as the engine room, stressing that it was the best interest of the State government to invest in the judiciary.

The Conference later went into a panel session chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Law,Niger Delta University, Professor Damfebo Derri, while Professor Ibibai Worika of the Rivers State University, Justice Simon Amaduobogha, Mrs. Nyingi Eke-Spiff Utomvie, King Collins Daniel and Mr. Warmate Idikio, Director General of the Yenagoa Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, YECCIMA serving as the Panelists.

A Communique was later issued at the end of the event and read by the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Yenagoa Branch, Mr. Somina Johnbull.
