Rotarian Chibueze Anthony Olikagu will be formally inaugurated on Saturday, July 25, 2026, as the 10th District Governor of Rotary International District 9141, with a commitment to providing strong leadership, expanding membership, and creating lasting impact in line with the vision of the Rotary International President.
District 9141 comprises the four BRED states of Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo and Delta. A transport management expert and chartered accountant, Dr. Olikagu joined the Rotary Club of Yenagoa in 2010 and has steadily risen through the ranks, dedicating himself to humanitarian service and the ideals of Rotary.
Speaking during a media parley at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Dr. Olikagu highlighted the remarkable contributions Rotary has made across the district and globally through its humanitarian interventions.
He outlined Rotary’s seven areas of focus, including environmental protection, basic education and literacy, community development, economic development, disease prevention and treatment, maternal and child health, and peacebuilding.
According to him, the district will continue to bridge the dignity gap among schoolchildren by supporting initiatives that provide a conducive learning environment, stressing that no child should be forced to learn while sitting on the floor.
“Our children are the future leaders, and they deserve a befitting learning environment that will enhance their capacity and prepare them for leadership,” he said.
Dr. Olikagu acknowledged that governments shoulder enormous responsibilities but stressed that organisations such as Rotary have a vital role to play in complementing government efforts through community service and humanitarian projects.
Speaking on the legacy he hopes to leave at the end of his tenure, the incoming District Governor said he would like to be remembered for providing strong leadership, achieving significant membership growth across the district, and delivering projects that create lasting impact in line with the vision of the Rotary International President.
He also encouraged members of the public to join Rotary, describing the organisation as one that offers life-changing opportunities through selfless service and community development.
Dr. Olikagu disclosed that club expansion would be one of the key priorities of his administration, with plans to establish more Rotary clubs across the district to deepen the organisation’s humanitarian reach.
He used the opportunity to appreciate the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, whom he described as a Level Three Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation, commending the governor for his unwavering support and contributions to the growth of Rotary.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
Dr. Olikagu also expressed gratitude to the people of Bayelsa State for their continued support of Rotary’s humanitarian activities over the years.
