The maiden football tournament for Epie Clan in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has kicked off, with Hon. Blankson Osomkeme as the sponsor.


In an interview, Hon. Osomkeme stated that the tournament aims to unite and groom Epie and Atissa youths, while also discovering new football talents.

“Football has the power to unite people, and that’s what we’re trying to achieve here,” he said.

He announced cash prizes for the top three teams, with the winner receiving N1 million, the runner-up N700,000, and the third-place team N500,000. Additionally, the two participating teams that played the opening match receive N100,000 each.

He emphasized that the tournament has no political undertones, but rather seeks to promote unity and development among the youths and commended the organizer of the tournament and pledged his continued support to ensure its success.

When asked about the quality of football displayed so far, Hon. Osomkeme encouraged the teams to improve their performance, stating that the tournament will become increasingly competitive as it progresses.

He advised the youths to engage in productive activities to ensure their future success while also revealed plans to expand the tournament to other local government areas in the state.

Despite some minor challenges, the sponsor expressed satisfaction with the organization of the tournament and pledged to address any issues that may arise.

The tournament is expected to promote unity, discover new talents, and provide a platform for the youths to showcase their skills.

In the opening match played at the Edepie Primary School field Opolo community defeated Biogbolo community by three goals to one.
