The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arraigned a social media influencer, Akaninyene Udo, popularly known as “AK Philo,” for allegedly spreading false and misleading security information capable of causing public panic.
Udo was accused of posting a threatening message on social media alongside an image of an armed bandit with the caption: *”Eket get ready for us.”*
Speaking during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, said investigations into the matter had been concluded and the suspect subsequently charged to court and remanded in a correctional facility.
The police commissioner stressed that creating, publishing, or disseminating false security alerts and deceptive information that could generate fear or public unrest is a criminal offence and warned that offenders would be prosecuted.
“Investigations into the case involving Akaninyene Udo, also known online as ‘AK Philo,’ have been concluded. The suspect allegedly posted a threatening message with an image of an armed bandit captioned, ‘Eket get ready for us.’ He has since been charged to court,” Azare stated.
The commissioner also disclosed that police operatives re-arrested a suspected receiver and distributor of stolen mobile phones, identified as Musa Idris, who was found in possession of 34 assorted Android phones and two button phones believed to be linked to robbery operations within and outside Akwa Ibom State.
According to Azare, the suspect was arrested along the Calabar–Itu Road following credible intelligence. Further investigations revealed that Idris had previously been arrested in October 2025 for offences related to armed robbery and possession of more than 200 assorted Android phones suspected to have been stolen.
The police chief further announced that the command had commenced enforcement of vehicle registration regulations across the state.
He also presented certificates of commendation to outstanding officers in recognition of their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to duty, noting that rewarding integrity and excellence remains a key component of modern policing and serves as motivation for personnel.
Azare commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for providing first aid boxes to police commands nationwide, including the Akwa Ibom State Command, describing the initiative as a significant step toward enhancing emergency response capabilities within the force.
