The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed that the female corpse discovered in a hotel in Igbogene, a suburb of Yenagoa Local Government Area, is that of a 22-year-old commercial sex worker, not a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as earlier speculated.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Musa Mohammed, who briefed journalists on the incident, clarified that the deceased, identified as Miss Francisca Otu, hailed from Omubo community in Akwa Ibom State and resided at the so-called “Ashawo Quarters” in Okarki, a neighboring town bordering Bayelsa State.

SP Mohammed disclosed that the tragic incident occurred last Saturday at Favour Home Guest House in Igbogene, where the victim had lodged with an unidentified young man suspected to be an internet fraudster, commonly referred to as a “Yahoo boy.”

“A receptionist at the guest house, Rachael Adaora, reported to the police that the body of the young woman was discovered naked and lifeless in one of the hotel rooms,” he said.

Following the alert, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Igbogene Division led a team of officers to the scene where the corpse was evacuated.

SP Mohammed further stated that the police have commenced forensic investigations to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect responsible for the murder.

The police also urged members of the public with useful information to assist in the ongoing investigation.
