Pa Agbodoubiri Amgbaduba, the revered patriarch and oldest man, or Amakosowei, of Okrika Community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, has been laid to rest at the age of 92.
His burial on Saturday, August 8, 2026, attracted family members, friends, community leaders, political figures, professional colleagues and well-wishers from across the Niger Delta, including Ekeremor, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, Warri, Forcados and Okrika.
The funeral was marked by prayers, tributes, eulogies and emotional reflections as mourners celebrated the life and legacy of the late patriarch, whose 92 years were described as a life of hard work, wisdom, humility, family responsibility and service to others.
Pa Amgbadoubiri was remembered as a respected community elder whose influence extended beyond his immediate family. Speakers at the ceremony said he lived a fulfilled life and successfully transmitted values of discipline, perseverance and responsibility to generations of his descendants.
The funeral brought together members of the Amgbaduba family and their extended relations, including the Mozimo, Adirimo and Sifo Wari families of Peredumu, as well as relatives and associates from Ekeremor, Burutu, Warri, Forcados, Port Harcourt, Yenagoa and other communities.
Among the dignitaries at the ceremony was the serving Judge of the Bayelsa State High Court, My Lord, Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro, who attended with members of his entourage from Penawei Egede Quarters, Ekeremor Town, Bayelsa State, the ancestral home of the Amgbaduba family.
Justice Omukoro’s presence was seen as a reflection of the enduring ancestral and communal relationship between the Amgbaduba family and Ekeremor.
Speaking on behalf of the immediate family, Mr. Sunny Maxwell Amgbaduba, a petroleum engineer with Renaissance Energy Ltd. and formerly of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), expressed appreciation to everyone who travelled from different parts of the country to honour their father. Sunny described his father’s 92-year journey as a blessing to the family, saying he was grateful to God for granting the deceased a long life and the opportunity to witness several generations of his descendants.
“Our father’s 92-year journey was a blessing to us as a family. We thank God for giving him the privilege of living to this age and for the impact he was able to make in human capacity advancement and in the lives of those around him,” he said. He said the large turnout at the funeral demonstrated that his father’s life and legacy extended beyond the immediate family.
“The number of people who came from different communities to honour our father shows that his life and legacy went beyond our immediate family. We are deeply grateful to everyone who came to stand with us,” Sunny added.
One of the emotional highlights of the funeral was the presentation of a song composed in honour of the deceased by his first son, Mr. Matthew Amgbaduba, a media mogul and veteran on-air personality. The song celebrated the life, character and legacy of the late patriarch and served as a personal musical tribute from son to father.
The final interment took place at Okrika Community amidst prayers, tears and tributes as family members and mourners bid farewell to the nonagenarian.
For the Amgbaduba family, the occasion was both a funeral and a celebration of a remarkable life. Pa Agbodoubiri Amgbaduba is survived by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and associates who, according to the family, will continue to preserve his memory and uphold the values for which he was known.
The family expressed gratitude to God for the life of their patriarch and thanked all those who contributed to making the funeral a memorable celebration of his life and legacy.
Though Pa Amgbadoubiri has departed physically, members of his family said his name, memories and values would continue to live on through the generations he left behind.
