There is palpable tension in Akenfa community, a suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital, over the continued rejection of the old #500 and #1,000 naira notes by traders and transporters.
Our correspondent gathered that the protesters carried various placards called on the Federal Government and the State Governor Senator Douye Diri to intervene to all ameliorate the suffering of the people.
As at the time of filing this report, the major roads leading to the state capital have been blocked by the protesters, making commuters to track long distances.
The government was, yet to intervene, neither issue a statement to assuage or pacify the protesters.
