The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the posting of Commissioner of Police (CP) Saka Adewale Ajao as the new Commissioner of Police for the Bayelsa State Command, replacing CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). �
The development was part of a major reshuffle announced on Wednesday by the PSC, which saw eight Commissioners of Police deployed to various state commands across the country, alongside the appointment of a new Commandant for the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
According to a statement signed by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Torty Njoku, CP Ajao was until his new appointment serving as Commissioner of Police, Administration, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Gombe.
CP Ajao is an experienced police officer with over three decades in service. He previously served in several operational and administrative positions across the Nigeria Police Force, including as Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he was noted for promoting intelligence-led policing, community engagement and crime prevention.
Other postings approved by the PSC include CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo to Abia State, CP Ayodeji Faniyan to Plateau State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue to Cross River State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama to Anambra State, and CP Patrick Daaor to Edo State.
The appointment comes at a crucial period for Bayelsa, where security agencies continue to intensify efforts against cult-related violence, sea piracy, kidnapping, pipeline vandalism and other crimes in the oil-rich Niger Delta.
Stakeholders are expected to look forward to CP Ajao building on the achievements of his predecessor, AIG Iyamah Daniel Edebor, in sustaining peace, strengthening community policing and enhancing security across the state.
