Search For Common Ground Inaugurates Monarch, Others As Peace Architecture In Bayelsa

A non-governmental organisation, Search for Common Ground on Thursday inaugurated the Pere(King),of Tarakiri kingdom of Bayelsa state, HRM King Seiyefa Koroye and others as Peace Architecture in Bayelsa state.

While the monarch was inaugurated as Co-Chairman of the state’s Peace Architecture, SP Ondo Gbekumo was sworn-in as Chairman.

Also inaugurated as Peace Architecture were, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ), Bayelsa state, Mrs
Grace Orumieyefa, PRO, Ndidiamaka mumaja Francis, Co- Secretary, while
Taritein Bocos is to serve as Org. Secretary of the NGO’s Peace Architecture.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting which also had in attendance various stakeholders, the duo of the Project Manager of the NGO, Mr Choroby Joshua and his colleague, Mr Nkemneme stressed that the main purpose of the project was to find a peaceful way to settle communal crisis in the NGO’s states of operation so as to avoid escalations.

They said the NGO which was established in 1982 commenced operation in Nigeria in 2014 and is being sponsored by the European Union(EU).

According to them, the project which will be lasting for a period of about 18 months was meant to foster a peaceful means resolving inter-communal conflict and also prevent marginalization in the Niger Delta states of Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers were it current operates.

Other areas in which the project would be focusing according to the duo include, environmental degradation, poverty eradication and marginalization of youth and women.

The project manager said the State Peace Architecture (SPA), Local Peace Architecture (LPA), and the Community Peace Architecture (CPA) were created to foster good communication system that will enable an early responds to conflict to foster peace at the state level.

In his remarks, the Co-Chairman, king Koroye advised traditional rulers in the state to work with the organization to foster peace in their communities.

Also speaking, Chairman of the State’s Peace Architecture, SP Gbekumo thanked the EU for bringing such an opportunity aimed at bringing peace to the state, promising to work earnestly to ensure peaceful coexistence in communities across the state.
