The Supreme Egbesu Assembly (SEA) has called on Ijaw people and other stakeholders across the Niger Delta to turn out in large numbers in support of two court cases concerning resource control and the creation of additional local government areas for Bayelsa State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, SEA, through Dr. Felix Tuodolo, announced that the matters would come up for hearing at the Federal High Court, Yenagoa Judicial Division, sitting at Court 1, Onopa, by 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026.
According to the group, the suits are focused on issues relating to resource control for the Ijaw people and the Niger Delta region, as well as the demand for the creation of twenty-four additional local government areas for Bayelsa State.
Dr. Tuodolo urged supporters, stakeholders and advocates of the cause to be present in court to demonstrate solidarity and commitment to the struggle.
He noted that the issues before the court are of significant importance to the Ijaw nation and the wider Niger Delta region, stressing that collective participation would strengthen the campaign for justice and equitable development.
The SEA spokesman recalled previous mass mobilisations by supporters of the cause and expressed confidence that the people would once again rally behind the legal action.
“This is our struggle. We have done it before and we can do it again. Let us make our efforts count by turning out en masse to support the cause,” he stated.
The Supreme Egbesu Assembly has been one of the prominent socio-cultural organisations championing issues affecting the Ijaw people, including resource ownership, environmental justice, political representation and equitable distribution of national resources.
The outcome of the court proceedings is expected to attract considerable attention from stakeholders across Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta region, given the far-reaching implications of the issues under litigation.
