Survellance contract: Izon activist commends Diri over settlement of rift between Tompolo, Asari
Izon activist and freedom fighter, Comrade Jacob Ebikeseiye alias Don Jay has given a part on the back to the Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri for resolving issues bordering on the rift between Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo and Alhaji Asari Dolaubo over the ₦48 billion oil pipeline survellance contract awarded to Tompolo by the NNPC Nigerian Limited.
Penultimate week, the Bayelsa State Governor summoned a parley of Ijaw stakeholders to wade into the seeming dispute between the ex-war lords in the Niger Delta.
Speaking exclusively to Niger Delta Herald in Yenagoa Ebikeseye, said the governor has proven beyond doubt that he loves his people.
He also noted that for the duo to agree to sheathe their swords to give peace a chance means the governor wants development and peace in Ijaw land.
Don Jay, as he is fondly called by his admirers, called on well meaning Niger Deltans to give Tompolo a chance to succeed, adding that Tompolo as a tested and trusted leader will carry all stakeholders along in the scheme of things.
Comrade Ebikeseiye, who is also the Acting Chairman of the Bayelsa state Advisory Committee on Community Development and Conflict Resolution, is also of the view that with the contract job given to Tompolo, oil prodcution that has gone to an all time low will increase in the near future.
He warned those who deal on illegal refineries porpularly called Kpofire to desist forth with before the long arm of the law catches up with them.
Don Jay congratulated president Muhammadu Buhari on the Nigeria’s 62 independence anniversary and Senator Douye Diri on the 26 years of the creation of Bayelsa state.
“Over the years we have been crying of the recognisation of Ijaw nation. Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari recognised the fact that you cannot give what belongs to Peter to Abel. It is thoughtful of President Buhari to have given the survellance contract to secure oil facilities and installations to a capable son of the Ijaw nation the person of Tompolo to work hand-in-hand with the conventional security operators.
“I also appreciate the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri for reconciling all the agrieved parties. All that is needed now for Tompolo to succeed is for all of us in the Niger Delta to give him the needed support instead of bickering amongst ourselves,” he added.
