Tension: Daredevil cultists invade Bayelsa community, kill three
Armed cultists suspected to be members of the Greenlanders on Wednesday night invaded the Igbogene Community in Yenagoa Local Government area of Bayelsa State, killing three persons including the son of a former head of community Vigilante known as Money Sweet.
The daredevil cult boys, numbering about ten and armed with dangerous weapons invaded the Igbogene area at about 8.00pm, causing residents to scamper for safety and locked their doors.
A resident told newsmen that the first person shot dead was the son of the former head of the community Vigilante group.
He was shot close to his house while the second person, who was not a cultist, was shot when he could not disclose the whereabouts of his elder brother.
Investigations however showed that the attack was sparked off by rivalry between the notorious Bobos and Greenlanders.
And the cultists involved are residents and Indigenes of Igbogene community.
While the police said three persons were killed, the community said two died in the attack with the third person receiving treatment from gun shot wounds.
The Youth President of the Igbogene Community, Ezekiel Igbenivie, who confirmed the development, said “those involved have absconded, but one of those persons shot is still alive. He is receiving treatment.”
A report alleged that the survivor, who is alleged to be a member of the Greenlander group, was mistakenly shot but was rushed to the hospital.
The arrival of the Police teams of the Doo Apoo, the Anti-kidnapping and the Rapid Response Team however calmed the situation down.
The Spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Musa Mohammed, who also confirmed the incident, said those shot include one Donaldson Mison, 28yrs; Addy Mulan, 27; and Greenboy Dudella, 29yrs.
