Tension in Yenagoa, as Tricycle rider kills community youth over fare
There was tension in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, as a tricycle rider allegedly killed a community youth leader over disagreement over fare payment.
It was gathered that the youth leader borded the tricycle, and when he got to his destination, an argument ensued over the amount to be paid..
It was further gathered that the disagreement resulted in a brawl that made the tricycle rider bring out a knife and stabbed the victim .
The victim was said to have rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
It was also learnt that the news of the death of the young man sparked off riots, resulting in the burning of tricycles operated by the tribesmen of the rider .
The Police confirmed the incident in a statement by the command’s spokesman, Asinim Butswat. The statement read:
“Bayelsa Police Command Condemn the murder of a community youth, appeals for calm.*”
“Deploys Anti Riot Team to restore normalcy.
“The Bayelsa State Police Command has deployed Anti Riot squad to restore normalcy at Kpansia and the unfortunate murder of a community youth by a tricycle rider.
“The youth was allegedly stabbed to death by the tricycle rider over a minor disagreement.
“The Command condemned the action of the tricycle rider, who was also lynched to death by irate youths and appeal to members of the community to be calm.”
