A Bayelsa State High Court sitting in Oporoma Judicial Division and presided over in Yenagoa has remanded a former paramount ruler of Ekowe community, Chief Godwill Andy Toboro, alongside four youth executives of the community over an alleged murder case.

Delivering the ruling, Hon. Justice Christine I. Kombo-Enegesi held that a prima facie case of murder had been established against the defendants and consequently ordered that the accused persons be remanded at the Okaka Custodial Centre, Yenagoa, pending the determination of the case. The court declined to grant bail to any of the defendants.

The accused persons are facing charges in connection with the death of one Emi Martins Sigah, who allegedly died after being brutalized, beaten and flogged by a mob in Ekowe community on March 24, 2026. According to reports, the deceased had been accused of raping a minor before the incident that led to his death.

The case has continued to attract widespread public attention across Bayelsa State due to its sensitive nature and the status of some of the persons involved. The court adjourned the matter to a later date for the continuation of hearing. Legal observers say the outcome of the case will be closely watched as proceedings continue.
