By Christopher Tom, Uyo The consecration and enthronement ceremony of the Bishop-elect, Barrister Favour Emmanuel Okokon, attracted an unprecedented crowd to the church auditorium and vineyard in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, with the gathering taking the appearance of a major gospel crusade.
The ceremony was attended by top politicians, captains of industry, business leaders, traditional rulers, clergymen, family members, friends and well-wishers, who gathered to celebrate the elevation of Okokon to the episcopacy.
Speaking with journalists shortly after his consecration and enthronement, the Bishop-elect expressed gratitude to God for the elevation, promising that he would not disappoint the people and the church entrusted to his leadership.
Okokon said his elevation would further strengthen his commitment to the ministry, adding that despite the challenges associated with leadership in the body of Christ, he would remain steadfast because he was convinced that he had been called by God.
He said the moment the anointing oil was poured on his head during the ceremony, he was reminded of the day he received his divine calling.
According to him, the experience was emotional and spiritual, as he witnessed what he described as the manifestation of the Holy Spirit and a fresh empowerment for the task ahead.
“When the oil was poured on my head, I remembered the day I was called into the ministry. Surprisingly, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit descend upon me and empower me. It is an experience I will not forget in a hurry,” he said.
The Bishop-elect said his commitment to providing purposeful leadership in the body of Christ and his passion for advancing the kingdom of God had continued to inspire people within and beyond his immediate sphere of influence.
He described his life and ministry as a testament to God’s grace, fruitfulness and the rewards of diligent service, expressing confidence that, by the grace of God, he would succeed in his new episcopal assignment.
Okokon also commended those who had supported and encouraged him throughout his ministry, particularly the Archbishop, His Grace, John Praise Daniel, and the Principal Enthroner, His Eminence, Prelate Prof. Isaiah Issong, as well as other Nigerians who honoured him by attending the ceremony.
He prayed that God would continue to bless them and their families for their support and presence at the historic occasion.
Earlier, the Principal Enthroner, His Eminence, Prelate Prof. Isaiah Issong, prayed that God would continue to use Bishop-elect Okokon as an instrument for the advancement of His kingdom.
Issong urged him to remain committed to the work of God and to provide sound and purposeful leadership in his new office.
He prayed that Okokon’s life and ministry would inspire generations to come, while asking God to grant him greater wisdom, strength, grace and divine direction in his episcopal ministry.
According to him, the new Bishop’s tenure should be marked by extraordinary impact, sound leadership, spiritual authority and an ever-increasing anointing for the work of God.
