Yenizue-Gene Defeats Akenfa To Lift Osomkime Soccer Tournament Trophy
The maiden edition of Osomkime Blackson Unity Soccer Tournament, cutting across all the communities in Epie clan in Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State has ended with YENIZUE-GENE deafiting AKENFA community 11-10 on a penalty shootout after a thrilling goaless encounter at the finals of the competition which took place at the main bowl of Central Opolo Secondary School, Opolo, Yenagoa.
The three weeks soccer fiesta came to a close with a total of 13 teams that fought hard for the coveted trophy.
The facilitator of the epic soccer tournament, Hon. Osomkime Blackson who spoke to newsmen shortly after presenting the trophy to the winner of the competition, Yenizue-gene community, noted that the primary essence of organizing the tournament was to foster unity among the communities in Epie clan which is a veritable springboard for the development of youths of Epie clan as a whole.
Hon. Osomkime Blackson further opined that football is a unifying factor all over the world and the tournament has gone a long way in enthroning unity among the communities in Epie clan, promising that the tournament will be sustained to provide more opportunities for more youths of the state to showcase thier talents in the round leather game.
He also reiterated that the tournament is also a calculated way of contributing his own quota in mopping the youths of the state from crime and criminality, stressing that the idea is devoid of any political undertone.
According to the soccer enthusiasist and philanthropist, the tournament will go beyond Epie clan but would also be extended to the entire Yenagoa local government area in the next edition next year to accommodate more youths across the state.
The coordinator of the tournament, Comrade Akuegbe Dumeze thanked Hon Osomkime Blackson for giving him the opportunity and support to serve the Epie youths through the game of football.
