Bayelsa State’s youth are set to benefit from a two-week intensive media skills training program launched by the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone. The initiative, spearheaded by IYC Central Zone Chairman Ineife Perekosufa, will focus on sports photojournalism, videography, and digital content creation, equipping participants with valuable industry-relevant expertise.

Speaking at the launch, Perekosufa emphasized the council’s commitment to fostering innovation and professional growth among young people in the region. “We are deliberate and intentional in fostering expertise in media, particularly sports photography, videography, and content creation. This training will open doors in journalism, digital storytelling, and creative industries, empowering participants to transform their potential into impactful careers,” he stated.

The training targets aspiring media professionals aged 18 to 30, combining hands-on workshops led by industry experts with real-world experience. In a significant boost, organizers of the upcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival have reserved five exclusive slots for select trainees to apply their newly acquired skills at the event, under the mentorship of veteran photojournalist Mr. Bodise Wilson.

With a growing demand for dynamic sports storytelling, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between training and professional opportunities. The IYC Central Zone reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment, positioning the program as a catalyst for economic and social development through media-driven innovation.
