The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Kelvin Okoro, who is accused of brutally murdering a Catholic Reverend Sister, Maureen Wecheonwu, in the Aluu community of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State. The shocking incident has left the quiet community in deep mourning and disbelief, as residents grapple with the gruesome nature of the crime.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect, Kelvin Okoro, was reportedly indebted to the late Reverend Sister, who had allegedly lent him an undisclosed amount of money. Multiple sources claim that the deceased had consistently reached out to Kelvin, urging him to repay the loan. However, what started as a financial disagreement tragically escalated into a brutal and premeditated murder.

An anonymous source close to the investigation revealed that on Thursday morning, Kelvin allegedly lured Sister Maureen to a secluded area within the community under the guise of resolving their financial dispute. It was in this isolated location that he purportedly attacked her with a sharp object, leaving her in a pool of blood before fleeing the scene.

The alarm was raised when concerned natives, noticing unusual activity and the prolonged absence of the nun, began a search. Her lifeless body was eventually discovered by local residents who immediately alerted a neighborhood security outfit. Security operatives quickly mobilized and began a manhunt for the suspect, who was apprehended later that day.

The spokesperson Grace Erenge-Koko for the Rivers State Police Command, while confirming the arrest, stated that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. “The suspect has been arrested and we have launched a full-scale investigation into the matter. Justice will be served,” the spokesperson assured.

The late Sister Maureen Wecheonwu was described by parishioners and colleagues as a devoted servant of God, known for her compassion and generosity. Her untimely death has sparked outrage within the religious and broader communities, with many calling for swift justice and stronger measures to curb the rising cases of violent crimes in the region.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Diocese under which she served is said to be in mourning, with plans underway to honor her memory in a series of solemn events. The police have promised to keep the public updated as investigations unfold.
