Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, on Saturday hosted a constituency meeting at his country home to welcome former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). During the meeting, the lawmaker declared Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the sole governorship candidate of the APC in Delta State for the 2027 elections.

The well-attended meeting brought together APC leaders from all eleven wards of Isoko South Local Government Area, with attendees passing a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, and Senator Joel-Onowakpo for what they described as “purposeful and visionary leadership.”

Prominent political figures at the gathering included APC Isoko nation leader Chief Lucky Esigie, Chief of Staff to the Delta State Governor Hon. Johnson Erijo, former DESOPADEC MD Odio Askia Ogeh, APC Isoko South Chairman Comr. Egbogbo Vincent, Hon. Onwo Ferguson (Isoko South Constituency II), Hon. Bino Obowomano (Isoko South Constituency I), and Delta State Commissioner for Land, Survey and Urban Development, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh.

Senator Joel-Onowakpo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Local Content, stressed party unity, emphasizing that distinctions between new and old members no longer exist. He stated that Governor Oborevwori remains the leader of the APC in Delta State, aligning with directives from the national party leadership and the Presidency.

He reaffirmed that the governorship seat is “not vacant,” asserting that the current administration deserves full support to deliver its democratic promises. The Senator also warned against internal divisions, urging ward leaders to maintain a fair and inclusive registration process for new members.

The meeting’s highlight was the vote of confidence motion, moved by Hon. Ferguson Onwo and seconded by Dr. Sylvester Onoyona, the APC’s 2023 House of Representatives candidate for Isoko North and South Constituency. The motion received overwhelming voice support.

A long list of party stalwarts also graced the event, including Hon. Lucky Okperi, High Chief Iduh Amadhe, Hon. Austine Igbine, Hon. Benjamin Ogbalor, Chief Louis Onofighe, Barr. Powell Ojogho, Queen Betty Efekodha, Rear Admiral John Kpokpogri (Rtd), among several others.
