A former member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and current Chairman of the Bayelsa State Project Monitoring and Evaluation Board, Hon. Engr. Ebiye Tarabina, has applauded Governor Douye Diri’s decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a bold and strategic move that will reposition Bayelsa State for greater development.
Tarabina, who represented Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 2 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, said in a statement issued in Yenagoa that the governor’s decision has realigned the state with the political centre, paving the way for improved collaboration and accelerated growth.
According to him, Governor Diri’s defection to the ruling party “reflects a pragmatic understanding of the political realities of the time” and demonstrates his commitment to placing the welfare and development of Bayelsans above partisan interest.
“Governor Diri has once again shown leadership and foresight. By joining forces with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, he has positioned Bayelsa to benefit maximally from federal initiatives, investments, and infrastructural development,” Tarabina stated.
The former lawmaker maintained that the governor’s move would strengthen Bayelsa’s voice at the national level, enabling the state to play a more active role in national decision-making. He called on all Bayelsans, irrespective of party affiliation, to rally behind the governor and support his new direction for the state.
“The governor’s decision is not about political survival but about aligning with a broader vision of prosperity for our people. The APC-led Federal Government has shown genuine interest in the development of the Niger Delta, and Bayelsa should not be left behind,” Tarabina added.
He further emphasized that as Chairman of the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Board, his office would continue to ensure that government projects across the state are implemented effectively and transparently in line with the renewed development drive.
Tarabina, a close ally of the governor, commended Diri’s leadership style, describing him as a “leader of uncommon humility, vision, and courage,” and urged political stakeholders to embrace unity and avoid divisive politics.
He concluded by reaffirming his unwavering loyalty to Governor Diri and the new political direction, assuring that Bayelsans would soon begin to feel the positive impact of this realignment with the federal government.
