Hon. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, Ph.D., has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, for the honour, dignity and profound respect accorded to the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhurujakpo, during his burial rites.

In a statement personally signed by him, Obuebite described the Governor’s actions as a reflection of leadership anchored on loyalty, friendship and appreciation for dedicated service—values he said the late Deputy Governor exemplified throughout his political and public life
.
According to him, “The befitting burial given to Senator Lawrence Ewhurujakpo by His Excellency goes beyond official responsibility. It clearly shows that Governor Douye Diri is a man who honours friendship and recognises dedication. These were qualities the late Deputy Governor consistently demonstrated in service to Bayelsa State.”

Obuebite noted that the relationship between Governor Diri and his late deputy was built on mutual respect, trust, friendship and a shared commitment to the growth and stability of the state. He added that this bond was evident in the Governor’s personal involvement and support throughout the burial process.

Quoting the Greek philosopher Aristotle, Obuebite said, “Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies,” emphasising that the depth of respect shown by the Governor reflects a leadership style that values people and relationships beyond official positions.

He also extended appreciation to the people of Bayelsa State, political leaders, associates and well-wishers who turned out in large numbers to pay their final respects to the late Deputy Governor.

“The massive turnout and outpouring of love witnessed during the burial ceremonies clearly indicate that Senator Lawrence Ewhurujakpo was an exceptionally good man—one who was loved, respected and admired by all who came in contact with him,” he said.

Obuebite further stated that the tributes and solidarity from across the state and beyond stand as enduring proof of the late Deputy Governor’s positive impact and exemplary character.

Citing renowned author Maya Angelou, he concluded, “People may forget what you said or did, but they will never forget how you made them feel,” stressing that the late Senator’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of the people he served.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of Senator Lawrence Ewhurujakpo and for divine comfort for his wife, children, family, friends and the entire people of Bayelsa State.
