The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone has suspended its planned solidarity walk following what it described as a significant breakthrough in efforts to resolve the dispute involving the Chief Executive Officer of Azikel Group, Dr. Azibapu Eruani, and two Ijaw sons, Daukoru Kariyai and Ebilate Yebei.
The development was announced in a press statement signed by the Information Officer of the IYC Central Zone, Mr. Ginah Williams Ikio, who said the progress was achieved through dialogue and reconciliation initiated by key stakeholders.
According to the statement, the breakthrough followed the intervention of the Director of Domestic Affairs to the Bayelsa State Governor, Barr. John Sambo, who briefed Governor Douye Diri on the matter. The governor subsequently facilitated communication with Dr. Eruani, paving the way for constructive engagement between the parties.
The statement disclosed that the Chairman of the IYC Central Zone, Comrade Perekosufa Ineife, has since held discussions with Dr. Eruani, with both sides agreeing to meet on Tuesday to explore an amicable out-of-court settlement.
It further revealed that the Council has also reached out to the family of Daukoru Kariyai to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are actively involved in the reconciliation process.
“In view of the positive development, the IYC Central Zone has decided to suspend its planned solidarity walk pending the outcome of Tuesday’s meeting,” the statement said, noting that the decision underscores the Council’s commitment to peaceful dialogue and reconciliation.
The IYC expressed optimism that the ongoing engagements would lead to a fair, just and lasting resolution of the dispute.
The Council also commended Governor Douye Diri, Barr. John Sambo and other stakeholders for their timely interventions and contributions towards advancing the peace process.
It appealed to Ijaw sons and daughters, as well as the general public, to remain calm, peaceful and supportive of the ongoing reconciliation efforts, expressing confidence that dialogue remains the best path to resolving the matter.
