Former Deputy President of the 9th Senate and Delta Central Senatorial District candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has raised the alarm over what he described as disturbing and increasingly credible threats to his life and those of his family members allegedly emanating from the Delta State Government House, Asaba.

Omo-Agege made the allegation in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, as he commenced his campaign activities in Uvwie Local Government Area and other local government areas in Delta State.

The former senator said he was bringing the alleged threats to the attention of the Nigerian public, the international community, civil society organisations, the media and all security agencies.

He warned that should anything untoward happen to him or any member of his family, the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, should be held responsible and accountable.

Omo-Agege said: “Should anything untoward happen to me or members of my family, the Nigerian people and more particularly the Urhobo people of Delta Central Senatorial District should hold the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, responsible and accountable.”

The statement comes as Omo-Agege begins his campaign tour across the Delta Central Senatorial District, with Uvwie Local Government Area listed among his initial campaign stops.

The allegation has heightened political tension in the state as the former Senate Deputy President seeks the support of voters across the district.

Omo-Agege, who signed the statement as Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR, KSJI, Deputy President of the 9th Senate and NDC candidate for Delta Central Senatorial District, did not provide specific details of the alleged threats in the statement.

He, however, called on security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to take formal notice of his concerns and ensure adequate protection for him and his family.
