Contrary to rumours making the rounds in some quarters, the Bayelsa State government says it is not waiting for support from the federal government to continue work at the ongoing construction of FIFA standard football stadium at Igbogene.
The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, made the clarification during the monthly Transparency Briefing for June and July, 2026 held in Yenagoa.
“I want to state categorically that there is no truth in that claim. It’s all false. Work in Igbogene, that is the world standard, FIFA standard stadium, is ongoing.
“And the prosperity government remains fully committed to deliver a world class facility for our youths. We are not waiting for anyone,” she stated.
Stating that Bayelsa, created on October 1st, 1996, had made significant milestones for the past 30 years, Koku-Obiyai noted that the State had grown from a young state into “a state of promise, resilience and progress” through the collective sacrifice of its people and visionary leadership.
“In the last six years of the Senator Douye Diri-led prosperity government, Bayelsa has been placed firmly on the path of fast-paced and sustainable development.
“From critical infrastructure to education, health, agriculture and youth empowerment, the story of Bayelsa today is one of deliberate action and results,” she said.
The commissioner assured that all ongoing “big-ticket projects” across the state were progressing according to plan and would be completed to specification and commissioned within the life of the present administration.
Addressing journalists, Koku-Obiyai described the media as a critical partner in governance and commended them for bringing government’s policies and projects to public focus.
“Report facts. Hold government accountable. But do not become partisan players, or elevate personal issues above developmental concerns,” she pleaded.
Reeling out the incomes and expenditures for June and July, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Treasury, Mr. Timipre Seipulo disclosed that the State got N83.66 billion comprising federal allocation and other receipts in the month of June.
Seipulo hinted that after deductions, recurrent and capital expenditures, the state was left with the sum of N1.225 billion, adding that a balance of 37.80 billion brought forward from the month of May, 2026, jacked up the total balance to N38.305 billion in June.
He, however, clarified that the N38.305 billion was only a closing balance and not savings for that month.
In July, Seipulo recounted that the state received a total inflow of about N69 billion out of which N16.9 million was left in the State coffers after deductions, recurrent and capital expenditures.
He said a balance brought forward from June of N38.305 billion raised the total balance to N38.225 billion as balance carried forward from the month of July.
Seipulo, again clarified thus: “like I have mentioned in June, it is important to mention that the N38 billion naira that we are reporting at the end of July is not a balance amount seen.
“This report is usually at the end of each month. Usually, this N38 billion is what you use in running the government between the end of July up till today (August 27).
