The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has inaugurated the campaign secretariat of its candidate for the Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency II seat in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Engr. Ikioumoton Frederick Ugo, ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party also commissioned campaign offices in various wards within the constituency as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots mobilisation and consolidate support for Ugo.
The inauguration and commissioning ceremonies, held in the constituency, attracted party leaders, ward executives, supporters and other stakeholders who pledged their commitment to the candidate’s campaign.
Speaking at the opening of the campaign secretariat, the Bayelsa State Chairman of APGA, Hon. Brisibe Kpodo, described the party’s platform as the vehicle through which the people could elect Ugo to represent them at the State House of Assembly.
Kpodo said Ugo had demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the people even before seeking elective office, noting that the candidate had reached out to youths, women, elderly people and other members of the grassroots.
He urged party supporters to see the campaign secretariat as a rallying point for mobilisation, consultation and reconciliation throughout the campaign.
According to him, APGA was committed to presenting Ugo as a credible candidate capable of effectively representing the constituency.
Kpodo further urged the people to support the candidate, stressing that the ultimate decision on who represents them rests with the electorate.
Also speaking, Ugo thanked the party leadership and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, promising not to disappoint the party or the people of the constituency.
Ugo said his ambition was driven by his desire to provide effective representation and bridge the gap between the people and political leadership.
He said, “I want to serve you. I don’t want to be a leader. I want to be a servant leader. Give me your votes and I promise you, you will never regret it.”
The APGA candidate also called on voters to resist what he described as political imposition and insist on choosing representatives who would genuinely serve their interests.
“We have had enough of imposition. We have had enough of people that are selfish and thinking about themselves alone. This is the time for us to all come together and work together and ensure that we have leadership that will represent the people,” he said.
On his legislative priorities, Ugo identified human capital development as a major focus of his proposed representation.
He said he would seek collaboration with the government, intervention agencies, oil companies and other stakeholders to provide opportunities for education, skills acquisition and other forms of human capital development for constituents.
According to him, “The people that want to learn something to do, there should be an opportunity for them to do that. The people that want to go to school, there should be an opportunity to do that.”
Ugo also said his legislative agenda would place strong emphasis on oversight, particularly in ensuring that budgetary provisions meant for the constituency were implemented.
He explained that rather than focusing only on the introduction of new laws, he would prioritise effective oversight of existing programmes and projects.
“There are a lot of laws in Nigeria. What we have is implementation of these laws,” he said, adding that his responsibility as a legislator would include monitoring government agencies and ensuring that projects and programmes contained in the budget were implemented.
The candidate pledged to remain accessible to the people throughout his tenure if elected, saying he was prepared to relocate to the constituency to ensure closer engagement with his constituents.
“I will relocate back to the village and ensure that we do what we want to do,” he said.
Ugo assured supporters that his commitment to the 2027 election remained firm, declaring that he would not withdraw from the race.
He urged the electorate to vote wisely and protect their votes, saying the people should determine who represents them in government.
Among party officials and ward leaders present at the events were the APGA State Secretary, Hon. John Alaibe; the Director-General of the campaign, Pst. Yalah Godwin; Comr. Ajoko Keniotimi, Ward 9 Chairman; Comr. Tamunokari Eredoy, Ward 10 Chairman; Moses Forun, Ward 7 Chairman; and other party executives and supporters.
The commissioning of the campaign secretariat and ward offices marks the beginning of APGA’s grassroots campaign activities for Ugo in Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency II.
Ugo had earlier emerged as APGA’s candidate for the Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency II State House of Assembly seat during the party’s 2026 primaries in Bayelsa State.
APGA, which stands for All Progressives Grand Alliance, is a registered Nigerian political party listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
