2023: Bayelsa council boss woos delagates with employment letters
Ahead of the primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Chairman of Ogbia Local Government Council, Ebinyo Turner, has been dishing out employment letters to some delegates to attract their votes.
Turner,.who is an aspirant for the Ogbia Federal Constituency ticket of the party, has already issued out over 50 of such employment letters to the delegates.
It was gathered that most of the beneficiaries of the employment rackets had received their first monthly salaries from the council to further hoodwink them to vote for the chairman.
A member of staff of the council, who confirmed the development in confidence, expressed concern that the new and strange offer of employment would negatively affect the finances of the council.
The source said that those, who had been employed might not last after the exit of the chairman later this year, as the process of their employment was faulty and reckless.
The source said: “We told the chairman not to do it and he refused. We are all peeved by his actions. Allowing politics to becloud his sense of reasoning. This is pure desperation.
“I also feel pity for those who think they have a job now at the council. It will not last for long as the next occupant of that office will remove them. As a council, we cannot sustain their payments for another 3 months”.
Reacting to the issue, a chieftain of the PDP in the area, called on the state government to probe the chairman over the incident saying his action had increased the wage bill of the council and added to its financial burden.
He said the action of the chairman had made mess of the reforms of the state government to sanitise the local government system.
