AFCON 2025: Super Eagles hit by injury setback ahead of Mozambique clash
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been dealt a blow on the injury front ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 showdown against Mozambique.
Only 25 players participated in the team’s training session on Friday evening as preparations gathered pace for Monday’s knockout encounter. Defender Ryan Alebiosu was present at the session but trained separately, as he continues his recovery from a leg injury.
The major setback, however, is the absence of forward Cyriel Dessers, who has been ruled out of the tournament after sustaining a thigh injury. The striker has since returned to his club to undergo further treatment.
Midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi also missed full training, with team officials confirming he is down with a cold and is being closely monitored by the medical team.
Nigeria, who topped Group C with a perfect record, will face Mozambique on Monday as the Super Eagles continue their quest for a fourth continental title.
