Bayelsa com’ttee on Dev. Planning ends enlightenment campaign

The Technical Committee for the declaration of the Gloyland Drive as a Development Planning Area has rounded off it’s enlightenment campaign to the remaining Cmmunities of Epie -Zarama, Yenezue-gene,Yenezue-Epie, Ekeki, Amarata, Onopa as well as those within the corridors of Gbarain and Ekpetiama Communities that includes,Akaibiri, Gbarantoru,Tombia, Agbia, Nedugo, Ogboloma, Obungha,Koroama, Okolobiri, and Pulaku all in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.
It would be recalled that a few weeks ago, the Technical Committee had visited some of the communities, which include, Igbogene, Yengwe, Akenpai, Edepie, Etegwe,Okutukutu and Opolo.
Speaking during the visit, the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei who also doubles as the Chairman of the Technical Committee re-emphasized the importance the state government attaches to this programme and called on the communities not to carry out any development pending the out come of the proposed plan of the area by the state government.
According to the SSG ,”government is going to plan the Area that would determine what kind of development that will take place in a particular area, and same would add value to your land which will further enable individuals to sell such plots at a higher rate”.
Alabo Ekeuwei further informed the communities that, government is not acquiring nor taking any land from the communities, pointing out that, in the course of trying to plan the area and if your land is affected, compensation would be paid such land owner.
The SSG further noted that Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, does not depict a befitting state headquarters, as houses are being built haphazadly.
He said, government is going to go the extra mile to actualize its intended plans for a new city that can compete favourably with any other cities of the world.
Alabo Ekeuwei also informed that, very soon, Governor Douye Diri will commission the phase 2 of the Glory Land Drive that is spanning from the Ecuminical Center to the Tombia/Ammassoma Road, pointing out that, during which, the governor would make proclamation of the area as a development planning area.
He commended the communities for their peaceful disposition during the visit and appealed for them to maintain the status quo.
In their separate remarks, the Ibenanawei of Ekpetiama Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Bubaraye Dakolo, and his counterpart from Gbarain Kingdom, HRM King Funpere Gabriel Akah as well as the acting paramount Ruler of Yenzue-gene Community, Chief Ayaba Ozikie, the acting Paramount ruler of Yenezue-epie, Chief Richard Ide, the CDC Chairman of Ekeki Community, Mr. James Osain, the paramount ruler of Amarata Community, HRH Chief Davidson Sam, and Paramount ruler of Onopa Community, HRH Chief Tamamama Morris all expressed appreciation to the state government for it’s proposed plan.
They said they are going to give the needed support to the state government but emphasised the need for the state government to carry them along and be very sincere in the entire process.
