Political Crisis: Thank President Tinubu for Timely Intervention — Suspended Gov. Fubara Tells Rivers People
...Says Peace Process Underway, Assures Return to Normalcy
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the people of the state and Nigerians at large to express gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his swift and decisive intervention in the state’s political crisis, which he said averted a looming breakdown of law and order.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the Simplified Movement in Port Harcourt on Thursday as part of activities marking his second year in office, Governor Fubara noted that the peace and reconciliation process—geared towards restoring both the Executive and Legislative arms of government—is actively in progress.
He assured the people that Rivers State will soon witness the full return of democratic governance and institutional stability.
> “I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved. You will return to your offices, both at the Executive and Legislative arms. I believe the strong relationships we had before will be restored, and we will work together again for the good of our state. What is important is for us to have a forgiving spirit,” the governor said.
Governor Fubara emphasized that the intervention of President Tinubu was instrumental in averting a major crisis and commended the President’s wisdom and sense of timing.
> “We are already in the peace process. I want you all to thank Mr President for his timely intervention to stabilize the situation. If not for him, the story would have been different today. I don’t know how he gets his information, but he acted wisely and at the right time,” he added.
He further appreciated national leaders and stakeholders who appealed to the President to step in and de-escalate the crisis.
Governor Fubara urged his supporters and political stakeholders to embrace the peace process, stating that the collective interest of Rivers State must supersede individual or political interests.
> “We must come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process. This is not about individual interest—it’s about the progress and peace of our dear state.”
Reflecting on the past months, the governor acknowledged that the ongoing political conflict had hampered plans to showcase developmental achievements as part of his administration’s second anniversary but reassured citizens that the government would soon return stronger and more focused on delivering the dividends of democracy.
He called for understanding and reconciliation among all stakeholders, saying that while grievances were legitimate, it was time to chart a path of peace and unity.
> “If anyone feels disappointed by the way I handled the crisis, I plead for forgiveness. Every action I took was guided by the need to safeguard the peace and progress of Rivers State.”
Governor Fubara reiterated his appreciation to President Tinubu for his fatherly role and disclosed that reconciliation meetings have since commenced, including some hosted by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.
> “There is no reason why there will not be peace between me and my Oga,” he said, referring to Chief Wike. “We are meeting. We will reconcile.”
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Rivers State, promising to serve with humility and respect.
> “One important thing in life is respect. I want to earn the respect of the people, not force it. I am with you completely,” he declared.
He also thanked Rivers people and Nigerians for their unwavering support, loyalty, and prayers throughout the period of political turbulence.
