The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Project Monitoring and Evaluation Board, Engr. Ebiye Tarabina, has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ward 7, Opokuma North, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Engr. Tarabina stated that his decision to leave the party was in alignment with the recent resignation of the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, who was the leader of the PDP in Bayelsa State.

According to the former lawmaker, who represented Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency II in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, his resignation was borne out of loyalty and solidarity with Governor Diri, whose leadership he described as visionary and people-oriented.
“My decision to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party is taken in total loyalty to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, who has also resigned from the party. I align myself with his decision and choose to follow, demonstrating my commitment to the new direction and vision for Bayelsa State,” Tarabina stated.

He expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity to serve the state under its platform and commended the party leadership and members for their support over the years.

“I remain grateful for the privilege I had to serve with the PDP and contribute to its growth and development. I thank you all for the trust, cooperation, and confidence reposed in me during my time in the party. I wish the PDP continued success in its future endeavours,” he added.

Tarabina’s resignation adds to the growing list of political appointees and loyalists of Governor Diri who have officially exited the PDP following the governor’s recent defection, signaling a major political realignment in the Bayelsa political landscape.

Political observers say Tarabina’s exit, given his grassroots influence and long-standing political base in Kolokuma/Opokuma, could significantly impact local dynamics ahead of future elections.
