As Nigeria marks another Democracy Day, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA), Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, has paid glowing tributes to fellow patriots who were part of the long and arduous democratic struggle to entrench good governance in the country.

Prince Amgbare, a long-time ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a committed democrat, took a moment to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey, recounting the key moments that shaped its evolution, including the 2007 governorship elections and subsequent electoral reforms.

In a statement to mark the occasion, Amgbare recalled his active participation in the trenches of democratic activism, particularly with the Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER) and the strategic efforts to expand progressive political platforms—from the Action Congress (AC) to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and later the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Dear Compatriots,” he wrote, “this is to specially and profoundly appreciate all my partners in the trenches. Our shared resolve to make democracy stronger and use it as a vehicle to deliver dividends to our people remains salutary.”

Reflecting on the emergence of President Tinubu, Amgbare said: “Another moment that deserves special mention is the making of Asiwaju’s Presidency. We are glad to have believed when many did not. Today, he is leading Nigeria with bold and innovative reforms.”

Amgbare also emphasized that the struggle for true democracy is not yet over, noting that significant challenges remain. He described the current phase as one that still requires dedication and collaboration, especially as Nigeria strives to consolidate democratic gains and extend development to underserved regions.

“As President Tinubu develops Nigeria with innovations, we at the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority are drawing from his wisdom to reform and reposition our agency for greater impact,” he stated.

Prince Amgbare, seen by many as a formidable political figure ahead of the 2027 elections in Bayelsa State, reiterated his commitment to eradicating poverty and improving the lives of rural dwellers and communities in the Niger Delta.

“We are still in the trenches because there are still more rivers to cross. But with our strong faith in God and collaborative spirit, we shall keep sailing,” he added.

Amgbare extended warm wishes to all Nigerians on Democracy Day and urged them to remain steadfast in defending and deepening democratic ideals.
