In a strategic move to enhance security across Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri on Thursday presented 31 brand new operational vehicles to various security agencies operating in the state.

The vehicle presentation ceremony, which took place at the Government House in Yenagoa following the 38th State Security Council meeting, underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening the fight against crime and improving law enforcement logistics.

Governor Diri noted that the vehicles were procured in response to persistent requests from service commanders for operational support. He expressed confidence that the gesture would significantly enhance mobility and coordination among security operatives.

“It was a recurring decimal during our security council meetings that security commanders requested for vehicular support. Today, we are putting that concern to rest,” the governor said.

Breakdown of the distribution includes six vehicles for the Nigeria Police (five for operations and one for the Commissioner of Police), four for the Directorate of State Services (including one for the State Director), four for the Nigerian Army (three for operations and one for the Brigade Commander), and the same number for the Nigerian Navy. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps received three vehicles.

Other agencies that received two vehicles each include the Nigerian Air Force, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

Governor Diri urged the security agencies to redouble their efforts in crime fighting and assured them of his administration’s continued support. He also emphasized the importance of proper maintenance of the vehicles to ensure durability and efficiency.

Responding on behalf of the service commanders, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sunday Idu, thanked the governor for the timely intervention. He described the gesture as a morale booster that would accelerate their operational effectiveness and foster deeper collaboration among security stakeholders.

“We appreciate this support from His Excellency. It will certainly enhance our capacity and help us intensify our efforts in maintaining peace and order in Bayelsa,” the police commissioner said.

He also pledged the readiness of all security agencies in the state to work closely with the government to uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety of all residents.
