Ijaw Nation Has Never Been Conquered and Will Not Be Conquered Under Any Guise
The Chairman of the Central Zone of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Comrade Peres Ineifie, has called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his position on the military intervention and sole administration in Rivers State.
He urged the President to uphold the rule of law and allow the people to democratically determine their leadership rather than resorting to unconstitutional actions.
Speaking during a World Press Conference at the Ijaw House in Yenagoa, Comr. Ineifie condemned the National Assembly’s hasty approval of the intervention, stating that due process and required standards were not followed.
He expressed shock at President Tinubu’s decision to depose a sitting governor without holding accountable all parties responsible for the political crisis, particularly the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and his associates.
According to Comr. Ineifie, a critical analysis of recent events in Rivers State suggests that the President is executing a script hastily crafted by individuals seeking to destabilize the Niger Delta region. He questioned the role of Nigeria’s Chief Security Officer in the situation, emphasizing that the Rivers State Governor does not control the police, army, navy, or air force—all of which are under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government.
“How is it that the alleged vandalism occurred outside Ijaw land? Why is the insecurity narrative being manipulated in Rivers State?” he queried.
The Central Zone leader called on all Ijaws in Rivers State to remain steadfast and united, reaffirming that no part of Ijaw land has ever been conquered.
He described the President’s stance as undemocratic, biased, and a betrayal of the principles of justice, fairness, and the rule of law.
