Olomu Dumps APC, Joins PDP to Contest Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Seat

Dr. Michael Bless Olomu has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Olomu, who is reportedly eyeing the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, is expected to seek the PDP ticket to contest the election.

His defection followed his unsuccessful bid for the APC ticket during the party’s primary election for the constituency. He had contested the primary alongside other aspirants but lost the ticket to Hon. Bernard Kenebai, who emerged as the APC candidate.

With his movement to the PDP, Olomu is now expected to begin consultations with party leaders, stakeholders and supporters across Sagbama and Ekeremor Local Government Areas as he positions himself for the 2027 contest.

The development could further alter the political calculations in the constituency, particularly as political parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the forthcoming general elections.

Olomu’s decision is also expected to generate reactions among political stakeholders and supporters of both the APC and PDP, with attention now focused on how his defection could influence the strength and alignment of the two major political camps in Sagbama/Ekeremor.

Further developments are expected as the 2027 elections draw closer and political parties commence their processes for the selection of candidates.

Olomu’s Defection to PDP Puts Sagbama Political Influence to Test
The defection of Dr. Michael Bless Olomu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could introduce a new dimension to the political calculations in Sagbama Local Government Area, particularly given his shared Ebedebiri roots with the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe.

Akpe, who was appointed Deputy Governor following the death of his predecessor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, also hails from Ebedebiri in Sagbama Local Government Area.

Olomu’s decision to seek the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency seat on the PDP platform therefore places the political standing and influence of the two Ebedebiri-born politicians under renewed public scrutiny.

While it remains to be seen whether the development will translate into an open political contest between the two, Olomu’s emergence on the PDP platform is expected to test the strength of existing political alignments in Sagbama and could generate fresh calculations among party leaders, supporters and stakeholders in the area.

The development may also become a significant factor in the wider political contest for the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
