As part of activities marking his sixty-first birthday celebration, the publisher and Editor-In-Chief of a Yenagoa based The Light Newspaper, Elder Ebi Ozegbe has organised free medical outreach for the residents of Amarata community and beyond in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.

The free medical outreach featured blood sugar and Blood pressure BP tests as well as presentation of drugs to beneficiaries.

The Publisher also presented cash gifts as a source of empowerment to elderly women and widows who came to celebrate with him on his birthday.

According to the celebrant, he decided to give back to society not because he has so much to spend but to appreciate God for His love and mercy which have kept him this far.

He recalled that the prayers of the elderly and widows whom he had reached out to during his previous birthday celebrations have gone a long way to keep him strong and healthy in the face of challenges.

Bemoaning incessant untimely deaths nowadays, the publisher noted that the free medical checkups became imperative for people to regularly know their states of health.

“Today, by the special grace of God, I am 61. I am still strong and healthy. God has been so merciful to me. As a way of giving back to society, I decided to give a token to the elderly and widows which I know will go a long way for them no matter how small.

“Because of these little things we do for them, their prayers can take one to higher grace. I remember when my office got burnt while I was inside. The generator that was steaming got burnt beyond repair but the tire on which the generator was sitting did not catch fire and I was not hurt. That is God’s grace.

Ozegbe thanked his well-wishers especially those who came to celebrate with him physically, wishing them God’s blessings.

Beneficiaries of the publisher’s benevolence did not hide their joy as they showered blessings upon him, wishing the writer good health and longevity.

One of the beneficiaries of the free medical services, Miss. Sarah Kokorifa said she remained grateful to the benefactor for providing her the opportunity to check blood sugar and blood pressure for free.

“Some people may not appreciate the importance of checking one’s BP regularly. Some of us don’t have the time to go for medical checkup especially to know their blood pressure.

“May God continue to bless and protect the life of Mr. Ebi Ozegbe so that he will continue to help the less privileged,” she added.

The event which took place at Delight Plaze Journalists Hangout at Punch Road, Amarata in the state capital attracted Newspaper Publishers, journalists, friends and well-wishers from far and near.
