Oseke unveils maiden football tournament
Hon. Preye Oseke, House of Representatives member, representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency of Baylesa State has described sports as a veritable platform to meaningfully engage the youths and divert their attention from crime and criminality.
Hon. Oseke stated this at the official unveiling of sports kits for the maiden edition of Preye Oseke Unity Cup Tournament for the 17 wards that makes up Southern Ijaw Federal Counstituency in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
According to him, the football tournament which will be an annual event is part of series of activities line up by his office to effectively engage the people of the Federal Counstituency especially the youths.
He said that after elections are over it is incumbent on the representatives of the people to give back to the electorates deviod of party sentiment, adding that in doing so politicians should play down on party affiliation and sentiments as well as all the political differences that tend to separate the people.
The Federal Parliamentarian noted that the tournament is a platform to bring the youths together to exhibit their talents, saying that as a representative of the people it behoves on him to execute programmes and activities that will bring about the peace, unity and prosperity of Southern Ijaw Federal Counstituency.
The Southern Ijaw House of Representatives member admonished all the youths from the federal counstituency to actively participate in the tournament to showcase theiy talents, noting that football scouts will be around to identify and fishout talents.
In his remarks as chairman of the occasion, the Special Adviser on Youths to the Interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Engr. Udengs Eradiri said that the unveiling of the football tournament is a testament of the quality of representation Preye Oseke has brought to bear on governance.
Udengs noted that the house of representatives member is a man who is always in touch with the people at the grassroots, adding that the tournament is an opportunity for the people of Southern Ijaw to be united and a means to expose budding football talents to the outside world.
Also speaking, Mr. Ebi Egbe said he would use his contact as FIFA match agent to support the tournament and ensure that talented youths are fished out and expose to football clubs in Europe.
The initiator of Preye Oseke Unity Cup, Mr. Robert Igali hinted that winner of the football tournament will go home with the trophy and cash of N1million, second place will go home with N700,000 while the third place will go home with N500,000 as well as other consolation prizes
