Police Intensify Manhunt for Suspect in Okaka Estate Murder
The Bayelsa State Police Command has intensified its search for the prime suspect in the murder of Miss Alari Matilda, who was killed in her residence at Okaka Estate, Yenagoa, on Sunday night.
Matilda, a native of Aleibiri Federated Community, was reportedly murdered by a male acquaintance said to have been living with her at the time of the incident. The suspect fled the scene and has remained at large.
Confirming the development, the police disclosed that the victim’s body has been deposited in the mortuary while investigations continue. The command appealed to members of the public with useful information to come forward to aid in apprehending the fugitive.
The tragic killing has heightened fears among residents of Okaka Estate, who are demanding tighter security in the area. It also adds to a worrying trend of violent crimes in Bayelsa. In July, estate agent Richard Ekpebu was abducted and murdered in Yenagoa, with police later arresting the suspected killer, George Idumangi, in Lagos as he attempted to obtain an international passport. Similarly, the Bayelsa State Government recently ordered an investigation into the killings of two indigenes in Brass Local Government Area, including Mr. Collins Kuromie-Ayebaye and Madam Amazige Ayebaesin.
These cases have fueled growing public concern over safety and underscored calls for security agencies to strengthen crime prevention and ensure perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
