The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old pastor, Ambros Mark, over the alleged sexual defilement of two underage girls in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Musa Mohammed, disclosed that the suspect had reportedly confessed to the allegation and that the case was being investigated for possible prosecution.
According to the police spokesman, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the ‘A’ Division swung into action immediately after receiving the complaint, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Mohammed stated that the Commissioner of Police had directed the division to transfer the suspect and the case file to the State Police Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
“The suspect, upon arrest, confessed to the charge, and the division has been directed by the Commissioner of Police to transfer the case and the suspect to the State Police Headquarters for proper investigation and prosecution,” he said.
The police said further investigations would be conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and ensure that appropriate legal steps were taken.
The alleged victims are minors, making the case particularly sensitive and underscoring the importance of protecting their identities and welfare throughout the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.
