The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Directorate for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. (Engr.) Ebiye Tarabina, has commended the progress of work on the ongoing Polaku/Sagbama road and bridge project, while calling on the contractor to intensify efforts for its early completion.

Tarabina, who led a team of board members and engineers on an inspection tour on Friday, said the project remained one of the priority infrastructure works of the state government, given its strategic importance in opening up rural communities and easing transportation within Yenagoa and adjoining local government areas.

During the visit, the chairman observed that the launching of the longitudinal beams on the bridge had reached the finishing stage. He also confirmed that placement of deck slabs and reinforced concrete beams was simultaneously ongoing.

He praised the contractor for adhering to quality standards and recording visible milestones but emphasized that timely delivery of the project was equally critical to meet the expectations of the people and government of Bayelsa.

“The progress we have seen here today is commendable. However, we are urging the contractor to speed up work so that this project can be completed within schedule and serve the purpose for which it was conceived,” Tarabina said.

Accompanying the chairman on the inspection were the secretary of the board, Engr. Sampson Igodo, other board members, and technical staff of the directorate.

The Polaku/Sagbama road and bridge project, when completed, is expected to significantly improve road connectivity, boost local commerce, and enhance socio-economic activities in the state.
