Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have engaged in productive discussions towards collaborating on NLNG’s planned revamp and enhancement of key operational facilities in Trains 1 to 6 of the NLNG Plant.

In a joint statement signed by Sophia Horsfall, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, NLNG, and Obinna Ezeobi, General Manager, Corporate Communications Division, NCDMB, the initiative is aimed at improving asset performance and overall productivity.

The discussions took place during the Nigerian Content Stakeholders Retreat hosted last week at NLNG’s operational base in Finima, Bonny Island, Rivers State.

During the retreat, NLNG’s General Manager, Production, Nnamdi Anowi, outlined the company’s revamp programme tagged Accelerated Asset Intervention (AAI). He explained that the initiative will commence in 2026 and will require NCDMB’s support and relevant approvals to ensure timely execution. According to him, the AAI programme is designed to overhaul the Trains and Common Facilities, which are central to NLNG’s operations.

“The goal is to implement predictive maintenance and continue to deliver sustainable top-quartile reliability performance, continue to deliver gas and value to the country, and retain NLNG’s position as the best company in the country,” he said.

Responding, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe—represented by the Director of Capacity Building, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele—pledged the Board’s support in line with its regulatory mandate and its long-standing collaboration with NLNG.

He noted that NCDMB and NLNG had jointly developed the first-ever Service Level Agreement (SLA) between a regulator and an operating company in the Nigerian oil and gas industry and are currently implementing other technical capacity-building initiatives.

He recalled that NCDMB granted accelerated approvals for key components of the NLNG Train 7 project, enabling the project to commence in 2020 despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, the Board also provided expedited approvals for new gas supply projects that will feed Train 7.

The Executive Secretary emphasized the need for NLNG to optimize Nigerian content and ensure maximum utilization of in-country capacity in line with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act.

Speaking later at the Award Gala Dinner marking the conclusion of the Stakeholders Retreat and Appreciation Night 2025, the Executive Secretary commended NLNG for the remarkable progress recorded on the Train 7 Project. He expressed delight that the project currently employs thousands of workers, describing it as a major boost to the national economy.

Dr. Ernest Nwapa, pioneer Executive Secretary of NCDMB, also praised NLNG’s longstanding leadership in Nigerian Content development. He recalled that NLNG distinguished itself early as an “icon of Nigerian Content” due to its voluntary compliance culture. He added that the company conducted the industry’s first skills gap analysis, which helped guide policymakers and stakeholders on priority capacity-building needs.

He further commended NCDMB for its successful implementation of the NOGICD Act and the milestones achieved so far.

The event’s highlight was the presentation of awards to outstanding companies and individuals for their contributions to Nigerian Content development. Recipients included NCDMB (Nigerian Content Business Enabler Award); Promat Coating Limited (Train 7 Award for Local Manufacturing and Procurement); EVOMEC Global Services Limited and ARCO Worldwide Services (Overall Best Nigerian Content Compliant Contractor—technical and non-technical categories respectively); and Seflam SGL Limited (Nigerian Content Diversity and Inclusion Award), among others.
