The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yenagoa Branch, Mr. Clement Bibisa Kekemeke, has emphasized the need for collective efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s future through the protection of national assets, adherence to the rule of law, and strengthened national security.

Speaking at the plenary session of the 2026 NBA Yenagoa Law Week held at the NCDMB Conference Hall, Yenagoa, Kekemeke described the theme, “Securing the Future,” as a broad reflection of Nigeria’s national aspirations beyond the legal profession.

He commended former President Goodluck Jonathan for accepting to chair the session, describing his humility and commitment to national development as exemplary.

Kekemeke explained that the choice of national assets protection as the focus of the keynote address was informed by the growing threats posed by oil theft, piracy, terrorism, and attacks on critical infrastructure across Africa.

He noted that governments increasingly collaborate with private security firms to complement statutory security agencies in protecting strategic national assets.

The NBA chairman also highlighted the credentials of the keynote speaker, renowned Pan-Africanist and anti-corruption advocate Prof. P.L.O. Lumumba, noting his expertise in maritime security and asset protection across Africa.

He said the panel session would feature key stakeholders, including Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; Executive Director, Operations and Technical, Tantita Security Services Limited, Capt. Warredi Enisuoh; and Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.

Kekemeke expressed appreciation to the Bayelsa State Government, NDDC, NCDMB, corporate partners, and members of the Law Week Planning Committee for their support toward the successful hosting of the event.

He expressed confidence that the plenary would generate meaningful discussions on sustainable strategies for protecting national assets and securing Africa’s future.
