Residents of Sagbama Town, the headquarters of Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, have continued their peaceful solidarity walk, calling for peace, unity, and the reinstatement of the suspended Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Alice Tangi-Allen.
The demonstration, which entered its fourth day, attracted a large turnout of community members, youths, women, and other stakeholders who marched through major streets of the town carrying placards and chanting songs in support of the council chairman.
The protesters appealed to the relevant authorities to reconsider the purported suspension and impeachment of Hon. Tangi-Allen, describing the development as unnecessary and capable of disrupting the peace and stability currently enjoyed in the local government.
According to the demonstrators, the council chairman has only about seven months remaining in her tenure, and allowing her to complete her mandate would foster continuity in governance and prevent avoidable political tension within the local government.
They argued that the remaining period of her administration is relatively short and urged all parties involved to embrace dialogue and reconciliation in the interest of the people of Sagbama.
The residents stressed that peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence should take precedence over political disagreements, noting that Sagbama has continued to enjoy relative stability under the present administration.
Many of the participants called on political leaders, stakeholders, and relevant government institutions to intervene and ensure that the dispute is resolved amicably. They maintained that the restoration of Hon. Tangi-Allen would strengthen public confidence in the local government administration and enable ongoing developmental programmes to continue without interruption.
The demonstrators also appealed to elected representatives and traditional leaders to prioritize the collective interest of the people over partisan considerations, insisting that dialogue remains the best approach to resolving political differences.
As the peaceful solidarity walk entered its fourth consecutive day, residents reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order while continuing to advocate for what they described as justice, fairness, and continuity in the leadership of Sagbama Local Government Area.
No incidents of violence or disruption were reported during the procession, as participants conducted themselves peacefully throughout the exercise. The residents expressed optimism that their appeal would receive positive consideration from the appropriate authorities, leading to a resolution that would preserve peace and stability in Sagbama Local Government Area.
