The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Commissioner of Police (CP) Saka Adewale Ajao as the new Commissioner of Police for the Bayelsa State Command.
Ajao replaces CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
The appointment is part of a major reshuffle approved by the PSC, which saw the deployment of eight Commissioners of Police to various state commands across the country.
The Commission also approved the appointment of a new Commandant for the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
According to a statement signed by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Torty Njoku, CP Ajao was previously serving as Commissioner of Police, Administration, at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Gombe State.
Ajao is a senior police officer with more than 30 years of experience in the Nigeria Police Force. He has served in various operational and administrative capacities throughout his career.
He previously served as Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he was recognised for his approach to intelligence-led policing, community engagement and crime prevention.
His deployment to Bayelsa comes as the state continues to grapple with security challenges, including cult-related violence, kidnapping, communal disputes and other criminal activities.
The new police commissioner is expected to assume duty and work with stakeholders, including the state government, traditional rulers, community leaders and other security agencies, to strengthen security and public safety across Bayelsa State.
