YENAGOA, BAYELSA STATE — In a significant effort to promote literacy, lifelong learning and equitable access to quality education, EduEreGirls Support Organisation, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine, has donated 50 three-in-one classroom seats to Luxuriant Mission Academy in Yenagoa.

The intervention also included the construction of a new walkway and the flooring of classrooms, creating a safer, more comfortable and conducive learning environment for the pupils.

The partners said the project was designed to restore dignity and hope while improving pupils’ confidence, participation and academic performance.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chairperson of the Bayelsa State Chapter of EduEreGirls Support Organisation, Mrs Tracey Kabowei, Esq., said the initiative was inspired by the organisation’s commitment to improving educational opportunities for children in underserved communities.

“Every child deserves to walk safely into a classroom, sit comfortably and learn in an environment that supports dignity, confidence and achievement,” she said.

Mrs Kabowei explained that the occasion represented much more than the presentation of classroom furniture. According to her, the new seats, walkway and classroom floors would make a meaningful difference to the pupils’ daily learning experiences.

She expressed the organisation’s joy at contributing to the transformation and commended the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine for its valuable partnership. She added that the success of the project should inspire similar interventions in other disadvantaged communities.

The President of the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine, Rtn. Prof. Onyaye Kunle Olowu, who was present at the event, said the project reflected Rotary’s global commitment to providing hope and relief through humanitarian service.

“This is one of the ways we reach out to our immediate communities. The donation of classroom seats, construction of the walkway and flooring of the classrooms are among the many interventions undertaken by Rotary and Rotarians around the world to give hope and succour to humanity,” he said.

Prof. Olowu reaffirmed the Club’s commitment to creating lasting impact in local communities and described partnership and collaboration as essential drivers of sustainable development.

Also present was the Club’s Immediate Past President, Rtn. Joseph Benaebi, who strongly praised the values of Rotary, as demonstrated through the transformation taking place at Luxuriant Mission Academy.

Rtn. Benaebi said the project exemplified Rotary’s dedication to service, compassion, partnership and sustainable community development. He noted that the improvements at the school showed what could be accomplished when individuals and organisations unite in service to humanity.

The District Governor of Rotary International District 9141, Rtn. Chibueze Olikagu, said the collaboration between EduEreGirls Support Organisation and the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine had restored hope and dignity while putting smiles on the children’s faces.

He called on public-spirited individuals and organisations to support Rotary’s humanitarian work, noting that society becomes stronger when citizens work alongside leaders and community organisations to improve lives.

The project followed a visit to the school in August 2026 by the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EduEreGirls Support Organisation, Elizabeth Pere-ere Ijeh-Tarila Jack, and the President of the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine, Rtn. Prof. Onyaye Kunle Olowu.

Recalling the visit, Ijeh-Tarila Jack said the poor condition of the learning environment was deeply distressing.

“We were moved to tears by what we saw. Our shared humanity compelled us to act, so we immediately reviewed our plans and prioritised improving the children’s learning environment and restoring their dignity,” she said.

The Proprietress of Luxuriant Mission Academy, Mrs Ann Aganaba, expressed gratitude to EduEreGirls Support Organisation and the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine for transforming the school’s learning environment.

She described the intervention as a dream come true, saying the pupils could now sit comfortably and reach their classrooms more safely. She prayed for God’s blessings upon everyone whose generosity made the project possible.

Looking ahead, Ijeh-Tarila Jack announced that EduEreGirls Support Organisation would now concentrate on Phase Two of the initiative at Cameroon Camp School. This phase will provide classroom desks and deliver further improvements to the school’s learning environment.

She expressed confidence that, with continued public support and generosity, Phase Two could be completed before the end of 2026.

The project demonstrates what can be achieved when charitable organisations, service clubs, donors and local communities unite with a shared commitment to giving every child a safe, dignified and supportive place to learn.
